Who were determined to defend their newly declared Republic against the returning Dutch Colonial forces despite being outmatched and outgunned the Indonesian people fought valiantly and ultimately succeeded in driving out the Dutch forces to battle of Surabaya and the events leading up to it were a testament to the unwavering Spirit of our people who were willing to fight and die for their freedom.
It was a victory that Inspired the nation and helped us gain International recognition for our independence today.

We honor the memory of those who fought in the Battle of Surabaya and all the other Heroes who have given their lives for our country we remember their sacrifices and their contributions to our nation’s history and development.
We must also remember that being a hero does not necessarily mean taking up arms and fighting on the Battlefield Heroes can be found in everyday life in the people who work tirelessly for the betterment of their communities, in the teachers who educate the Next Generation, in the health care workers who heal the sick and in the volunteers who help those in need.
